In the ever-evolving landscape of the global digital economy, technological advancement profoundly reshapes the fabric of society. It is imperative to harness the power of technology for the common good, while avoiding a scenario in which human society is alienated by technology. With a vibrant economy and a daring culture, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is emerging as a new engine for global technological and industrial innovation. Situated in the geometric center of GBA and as the vital bridge connecting HKUST(GZ) and society, Society Hub is poised to support GBA in making progress in this transformative era. Our vision is to become a leading force in the knowledge economy of a digital society. We are committed to bridging the gap between academia and society, facilitating significant changes in social governance and enhancing the quality of life for all.
Leveraging the distinctive cross-disciplinary education system of HKUST(GZ), Society Hub has attracted distinguished faculty members from world-class universities, each bringing a unique perspective and exceptional expertise in teaching and research united by a shared vision. We have been strategically advancing our efforts in four critical thrust areas: Carbon Neutrality and Climate Change (CNCC); Financial Technology (FTEC); Innovation, Policy and Entrepreneurship (IPE); and Urban Governance and Design (UGOD). Each of these areas addresses some of the most pressing social issues of our time, aligning with national development strategies and market needs.
We aim to nurture socially conscious talents with cutting-edge analytical skills and an open and growing mindset, ready to tackle social and economic issues and contribute to the knowledge economy in a digitally connected society and AI-reshaping world. Our students are expected to take the lead in innovation of technology, policy, culture and spaces in which we live and interact. As a higher learning institution, we actively foster partnerships with industry leaders, think tanks, and research organizations, ensuring our mind and work be rooted in reality.
We had an extraordinary year of amazing growth in our students and faculty. We proudly presented our Class 2024, the first cohort of graduates, to society. We are eager to have more scholars and students from all sectors join us in an exciting journey of innovation and scholarship in the interface between technology and society for a prosperous, sustainable, and harmonious future.
